THE BECK HOPELESSNESS LEVEL ACCORDING TO BEHAVIOR CHANGE STAGES IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS


The aim of this study is to determine the level of hopelessness of different faculty students in Ondokuz Mayıs University according to the behavior change stages. T-test, one-way analysis of variance and LSD tests were used for statistical procedures. In the research, according to gender, despair scale scores were 5.93 points for female students and 7.39 points for male students. The overall mean score of the Hopelessness Behavior Scale was 6.63 points. A statistically significant difference was found between hopelessness levels of students according to gender (p<0.001). There was a statistically significant difference between despair level scores according to faculties (p <0.001). The scores of the students of the sports faculty are significantly lower than the scores of the students in other faculties. While the despair scale score of those who are in the pre-trend stage of behavior change stages is 8.29, it is 5.58 points in the continuity phase. The differences in the level of hopelessness of the students were found to be significant (p <0.05). As a result, the hopelessness level of university students in different faculties was found to be 6.63 points. The level of hopelessness of the sports faculty students is better than the other faculty students. The level of hopelessness of the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts is better than the students of the Faculty of Science and Letters. It is concluded that those who do not have a tendency to do sports according to the behavior change levels and those who intend to do sports have lower levels of hopelessness. Again, students who are active and active in art are less hopeless. In order to decrease the level of hopelessness, students are advised to do sport and exercise along with various activities such as painting, listening to music.
