VIEWS OF STUDENT ON OUTDOOR EDUCATİON


The aim of this study is to examine the views of the students about the activities carried out on the basis of outdoor education in the 4th grade social studies course. In this study, phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. The study group consisted of 33 students in the 4th grade of an primary school at the middle socio-economic level in Izmir in the academic year 2018-2019. During the six-week period, the 4th grade social studies course was carried out by people, places and environment learning area subjects. A semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used as a data collection tool. Data were collected by the researcher. Research data were analyzed through content analysis. According to the results of the study the students stated that outdoor educational activities provided permanent learning by seeing, touching and feeling. and they had learned learning by doing by having fun and taking part in the lesson actively. The students emphasized that the activities were affected positively by giving the opportunity to experience emotions such as fun, joy, excitement and happiness. They also stated that they had acquired permanent information and learned that they were persistent for learning by doing through activities. The students pointed out the most beneficial environments for them, and the fact that the activities in the environment included practice, the environment being interesting, the environment being an important source of information, and being suitable for research and exploration.
