THE EFFECT OF TEACHER LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM ON THE LEADERSHIP SKILLS OF MASTER INSTRUCTORS AND TEACHERS AT NON-FORMAL EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS


Primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of “Teacher Leadership” training program on the leadership skills of master instructors and teachers at non-formal education institutions. The sample group of the study consisted of 44 participants (22 in the experimental group, 22 in the control group) working in informal education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Konyaaltı district of Antalya during the school year of 2017-2018. In the study, the “Teacher Leadership” training program including 24 activities was applied by the researcher to the participants in the experimental group four days a week for 6 weeks. Teacher Leadership Scale form were used as data collection tools in the study. SPSS 21.0 packaged software was used in the analysis of the study data. The difference between the pretest, posttest and retention test mean scores obtained from the Necessity Level of Behaviors Scale and the Display Level of Behaviors Scale was calculated with the Wilcoxon signed rank test. In order to compare the scores obtained by the participants from the pretests, posttests and retention tests, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon signed rank test for repeated measures were used. When comparing the posttest and retention test scores of the “Teacher Leadership” training program which was applied to the experimental group; it was observed that there was an effective and positively significant difference. In this respect, when assessing the effect of the “Teacher Leadership” training program which was prepared to increase the teacher leadership skills of participants on the teacher leadership skill levels of teachers; it was seen that it significantly increased the leadership skill levels of the teachers in the experimental group. Thus, it is possible to assert it will hopefully be effective in other groups, as well.
