A Research on the Usability of Internet in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language


Language education is of interest to researchers because it is important for individuals to adapt themselves and to express themselves. Language education is mainly studied in two topics as mother language education and foreign language education. This process starts with the mother language education of individuals and continues with foreign language education in the following period in line with interests and needs. However, the mother language of individuals can affect foreign language education processes both cognitive and emotional. The language education process is shaped under the influence of many elements because of the fact that individuals are a social entity. These factors can be listed as home, environment, school etc. Developing technology enables internet usage to be spread among individuals. This situation causes individuals' language development to be affected on the internet and internet-based applications. In this study, it is aimed to determine the availability of internet-based applications in teaching Turkish to foreigners. Qualitative methods were used in the study. The data source of the research consists of Interview forms obtained from the students who receive education at the Turkish Language Teaching Center. Random method was used in the selection of students. These interview forms were analyzed by document review method. According to the results of the research, foreign students learning Turkish use now internet and internet-based applications to learn vocabulary in more than before. It was determined that the students benefited from such practices in Turkish education. This case is an indication that the internet can be used in Turkish Language Teaching.
