EVALUATION OF DIVORCED WOMEN’S OPINION ABOUT THE VIOLENCE AND MURDERORIES NEWS IN THE MEDIA: A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH


This study conducted with divorced women and this study is aimed to investigate some factors in the divorce process, to evaluate their views on violence and murder stories in the media, and to investigate the effect of these reports on their divorce process. In this research, in-depth interview technique was used from qualitative research methods. Semi-structured interview form and personal information form were used. The research took place between September 2017 and May 2018 with 15 divorced women living in Konya. The ages of the women in this study are between 26 and 48 years old and they work in different works. In the study, the majority of women stated that they had decided to divorce by their decision. The reason for the divorce is usually; the close social environment, economic reasons, lack of interest- communication and violence. Some of the women have a positive view of remarriage. Also, most women have stated that they see the news about women's violence and women's murder as negative examples and the news have a negative impact on their divorce process. Women who experienced violence in their marriage, more affected by negative media reports. Most of participants stressed that they had trust problems due to reports of violence and murder. And this had a negative impact on a second marriage. Finally, the women in the study made some suggestions for presenting media reports on female violence and murder. Women’s suggestion is that; the most sanctions are not enough, punishments should be increased, in addition to this news in the media, the punishments should be kept on the agenda.
