Assessment of Postgraduate Theses on Rail Systems


This research was carried out in order to examine how the overall situation of rail systems are handled in graduate theses written in Turkey. The universe of the research consists of graduate theses written on the subject "rail systems" in the national thesis database of Higher Education Institution (YÖK). No sampling method was used in the research. Until September 2019, the date of the research, 202 graduate theses on the subject of "rail systems" were determined in the national thesis database of Higher Education Institution, and all were included in the research. The data of the research were collected and coded according to the thesis review form created by the researcher. The document review results were transferred to SPSS 22.0 program in computer environment and were subjected to percentage and frequency analyzes. As a result of the research, it was determined that the first post-graduate thesis on rail systems was made in 1992 and that the highest number of post-graduate theses were made at Istanbul Technical University. The majority of the graduate theses on rail systems were done in the Institutes of natural and applied sciences and that the most graduate theses were performed in the Departments of Electrical, Electronics, Electrical-Electronics Engineering. They were written in Turkish and as a master's thesis in state universities. The majority of the advisors who manage the graduate theses were carried out by academics with the title of Professor Doctor. When we look at the contents of the theses reviewed; it was observed that in 62 of the 202, projects were created, and in 8, the created project was also implemented.
