The phenomenon of ecotourism, whose historical roots can be traced back to the national parks and habitats that began to emerge as a result of political pressures that increased in the 19th century, draws attention as a type of tourism that has started to develop since 1970s and its popularity is increasing day by day. On the other hand, there has been some confusion surrounding the etymology or origin of the term ‘ecotourism’, as evident in the tremendous volume of literature on the topic. Therefore, the first part of this paper investigates conceptual framework of ecotourism to draw a conceptual framework. Then give a short summary of its methodology. It is used semi-structured interview to discover ecotourism potential and make a SWOT analysis. Hence, during August 2019, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 24 people from representatives of interest groups. The later part presents Kuşadası district and its 5 ecotourism roots. In this chapter, economic, social and environmental problems of Kuşadası are exhibited according to the stakeholders’ ideas. After that SWOT analysis is done to evaluate ecotourism potential of Kuşadası. The weakness of Kuşadası ecotourism could be ameliorated by correct policies at local and national level in the mid or long term. Finally, it brings quite detailed conclusions and recommendations part according to semi-structured interviews results.
