EVALUATION OF CULTURAL AND ART FESTIVAL OF ETİMESGUT INTERNATIONAL ANATOLIAN DAYS IN TERMS OF URBAN TOURISM RESOURCES


Today, tourism activities preserve their importance among development tools. Apart from classical tourism preferences, the tendency towards alternative tourism activities and destinations is increasing day by day. In this respect, cultural tourism, ecotourism and urban tourism resources are included in alternative tourism. Festivals, as a means of identity, are accepted as a source of urban tourism, branding and development in many studies. Etimesgut, the research area, is one of the districts of Ankara Metropolitan area that has been developing in terms of population and urbanization in recent years. International Anatolian Days of Culture and Art Festival has been organized every year in Etimesgut since 1999 until today but with the rare exceptions in some years. The aim of the study is to evaluate the international festival organized in Etimesgut in the sense of city tourism. The theme, purpose, size and socioeconomic impact of the festival in this study are analyzed comparatively by reviewing Literature about the festival. In this study, descriptive research method is adopted. Secondary data which is related to the number of participating countries, associations, federations and visitors from the relevant institutions are obtained. So, it is understood that the festival is an international, large-scaled and cultural themed festival. Finally, it is clear that the festival has some effects on the demographic and socioeconomic structure of the city. The festival is thought to be a source of urban tourism with the mission of keeping Turkish culture alive and transferring it to new generations who are about to forget or not to value as before as a reminder of customs and traditions.
