THE IMPACT OF THE PARTY IMAGE ON VOTING BEHAVIOR: THE CASE OF VOTERS WHO HAVE NOT VOTED FOR CHP IN KUTAHYA AND AFYONKARAHISAR

The social changes occured in Europe as a result of French Revolution and Industrial Revolution put an end to conventional ruling perception and social order. While cease of the conventional order was supplying the right to vote for the mass, the power became determined by elections. The most important agents of this order became the political parties. Determining the political power by its audience as a result of their political preferences turn into the question of what are the dominants over voter preferences and analyses of voter behaviours to an important research field. Scientific researchs revealed that ideological, cultural, economical, communicational etc factors are efficient on the voter behaviours. This case diverted the political parties willing to acquire and control the power to become differ from or to resemble each other on organizational structures, ideologies, economic policies, ecopolitics and the image of the party among voters. In this regard, it’s been seen that Turkey had important changes on the axis of neoliberal policies especially in the period after 1980. These changes acknowledged as affected political, economical and cultural fields to a large extent, hence became efficient on the policies of the political parties over the political, economical and cultural fields. That situation brought on the power struggle in political field to be carried out over cultural identities instead of being pursued over essential fields such as equally sharing of national income, education, right to health, supremacy of law and establishing of justice, enhancing the economical and democratic standards. Thus it’s seen that the discourse on cultural identities became an important element on the preferences of voters by settling in the centre of politics. This paper aims to analyse historical and contemporary motivations of the countervoters’ preferences of founder party and an important role owner in the establishing of Turkish democracy CHP, especially through the changes in Turkey after 1980.
