ASSESSMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE BY GRAY RELATIONAL ANALYSIS METHOD IN FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS: APPLICATIONS IN TURKISH BANKING SECTOR


Thanks to the global developments and increasing technology, the concept of sustainability has increased in the banking sector among financial institutions. The sustainability of banks' assets in terms of sustainability has revealed a number of responsibilities. The social, environmental and economic sustainability performances of the banks within these responsibilities have made them extremely important. As a result of the activities in the banking sector, GR4 (Global Reporting Initiative) data were included in the sustainability reporting of the banks. In this context, the sustainability performance evaluation of the 14 banks in Turkey to previously created GRI4 (Global Reporting Initiative) determined by using the Gray relational analysis of the data variable in accordance with 31 units of banks; social, environmental and economic sustainability performances were evaluated. In this study; For social variables, variables such as the number of personnel, the number of trainings organized, the number of personnel participating in the training and the investment amounts in the training; for environmental sustainability; variables such as number of branches of banks, maintenance and repair expenses, energy and communication. For the economic sustainability variables, profitability ratios, growth rates, continuity ratios and income / expense structures were used. As a result of the study, 2018 in terms of social sustainability; It was observed that 14 banks did not increase the number of branches too much compared to 2018, the number of personnel did not increase due to the number of trainings and investments made and the recruitment of the personnel was less with more sensitivity to the importance of the training given to the internal personnel. In terms of environmental sustainability; Among the 14 banks, Akbank was the best performing bank, while the worst performing bank was Türk Ekonomi Bankası, one of the privately-owned banks. In terms of economic sustainability; Turkey has the best performance in the 14 banks was the bank Isbank.
